Step 1. Setup Weebly Website
Now you have probably heard that Weebly is free. You might be wondering why is it free? What’s the catch behind it? Actually, there’s no catch. It’s free because you have to do the setup yourself.
In other words, you need a domain name (typically costs $14.99/year) and Weebly self-hosting plan, normally costs $8.00 / month. (even tough the plan is optional. It only gives some extra features. However, all of the essential elements to build your website are included for free).
A domain name is often the first thing you need when starting a website. It is your digital address that people will use to get connected to your website. It’s simply your website’s name. For example, the domain name for this website is WeeblyTutorials.com. Think also google.com or microsoft.com.
You may get started totally for free with Weebly. This means that you will be using the FREE Weebly basic plan and a free subdomain with this format something.weebly.com. However, getting a regular domain name such as something.com directly is a very recommended thing. That makes your website look professional, gives it a higher rank on search engines and maximizes the trust in your business, online store, blog or any whatever other online adventure you’re getting into.
Is there a possibility I can get a domain name for free? Fortunately, YES. Thankfully, Weebly has agreed to offer our users a free domain name and over 68% off when bundled with the right plan.
As a quick brief, Weebly is one of the largest, world’s most popular drag-and-drop website builders on the market today. The company was founded in 2006, since then, it had an ascending expansion, rapidly hitting the one million users in early 2008. Its success and growth have remained and continued further to this day. Weebly now hosts over 45 million sites across the globe.
NOTE: At WeeblyTutorials we believe in transparency. If you sign up with Weebly using our referral link, we will earn a small commission at no extra cost to you (in fact, you will save money and get a free domain).
Well, let’s go ahead and purchase your preferred domain + Weebly self-hosting plan.
Open up Weebly in a new window and follow along.
The first thing you need to do is click on the green Get Started Now button to get started. You’ll need then to enter your account information.
On the next screen, select the plan that you need (Pro is the most popular plan but you may go with the Starter, either way, you will get a FREE domain name). Once done, choose your payment method, finalize the package info then click ‘Buy Now’ to complete the process.
Once completed, you will receive a confirmation email that contains details on how to login to your Weebly account and Site Editor. This is where you are going to manage your account. But most importantly, this is where you build your website.
Step 2. Selecting your Weebly Theme and Start Building your Website
The visual appearance of your any website is controlled by themes. Customizing the look and feel of your website is by far one of the most exciting thing in the journey of creating your Weebly website.
There are thousands of ready-to-use Weebly themes that you can use. Some of them are free, while others are paid. You can change your Weebly theme by going to your Weebly Site Editor and clicking on Theme » Change Themes. Here’s how Weebly theme gallery looks like:
When you have found your preferred theme, simply select it, hit Choose Theme button. The theme in question should be fully activated on your website. This, however, will still visible only on your Site Editor. Do not forget to hit Publish button after then so you see it live.
Step 3. Creating Your First Website Page
To create your first page, click on the Pages then hit the Plus (+) icon on the upper left of your Weebly Site Editor.
Step 4. Weebly Plugins & Customizations
Once you have selected your preferred theme and added some new pages, you probably want to get started with adding other usual elements on your website such as a contact form, images, videos, about page, and more.
To further personalize Weebly and add other features such as videos, forms, galleries, etc, you may need to use Weebly app/plugins.

I always enjoy reading your Weebly tutorials. I like the simplicity of these post on making a website with Weebly. You guys get the point across using simple terms and references. I am curious, had you been using Weebly for years? If so, what are some other good options available aside from this website builder?
Hi Samantha, I personally have used Weebly previously, for like two years now. But I, honestly, haven’t researched any other website builders aside from that. I mean, I used some before but they were below my expectations. I mostly worked with CMS such as WordPress and some hand-coding based projects. I’m sure a quick web search would bring up multiple options though for you. In this matter, you may also want to have a look at our Weebly review article so you get an idea if you still didn’t make up your mind regarding Weebly.
I’m new but I need assistance designing the website.
Hi Karen, thanks for your comment. How can we be of assistance?
I can’t say that I found any useful information here at all. There is no helpful info here on a weebly beginner beyond what you could do if you knew how. I have been trying to work with the site builder and it does not behave/respond in any way that I am used to with using simple page layout programs – Pages or InDesign etc. I can’t reposition items, increase text size in minor increments etc. And I was hoping on finding out how to do these things here.
Hello Valey,
Thanks for your feedback. Actually Weebly is one of the most easiest website builders nowadays. If you’re new to it, just give it sometime so you start getting familiar with its editor etc. As far as building your website goes, you can almost find anything you’re looking for here. You can use the search feature in our website for example and you’ll find plenty of useful and easy to follow tutorials.
Kindly let us know if we can be of any assistance.
Thank you.
I agree with Valey. I’ve struggling with the Weebly editor for two weeks, and only now am I beginning to feel I’ve created the barest semblance of a fully-functional online store. I’ve found it to be one of the more irritating and frustrating pieces of software I’ve tried to learn by doing in the 30 years I’ve been using computers. Neither your tutorial nor any other I’ve been able to find provide more information than I as a beginner was able to work out for myself in the first few hours of using the program. None of the details I’ve painfully come to understand are discussed, and I expect I still have much more to learn than I already have. A comprehensive tutorial that completely explained the structure of the Weebly builder and reviewed all it’s quirks and details would be most welcome.
Hi Frank,
Thanks for your feedback. Actually we’re about to publish our Weebly PDF Tutorial. A complete guide for beginners. Read more here: https://weeblytutorials.com/weebly-pdf-tutorial
